Ribwort Plantain (1 Viewer)

Is anyone familier with the fasciation of Plantago lanceolata flowers. Instead of the one flower I have found some with three flower heads ie one normal flower & one coming out of each side of it. Is this common?

Hi Colin, yes, I have seen this occasionally, indeed the related family Scrophularaceae are also very prone to fasciation and I have seen several Digitalis (Foxgloves) and Verbascums (Mulleins) with the deformity.
The related Plantanginaceae are really just an offshoot of the Scrophularaceae that have become wind pollinated rather than insect pollinated and I suspect that their close relationship is the reason for their predisposition towards fasciation.
