OK, it's technically still the middle of the Winter, but two things happened today:
1) Temps broke the 50º F (11º C) barrier today. Quite nice. This endlessly frozen covering of snow and ice is finally beginning to melt away -- creating a mess, but melting. It will likely be quite temporary, but it's nice to have the weather break.
2) American Robins are moving in! I have officially spotted several today, and for the first time this season. Very exciting!
I've recently built a couple of items to assist in shooting birds closely. I constructed a basic covered bird feeder out of scraps from around the house, and hung it from the side of the deck. I used branches from around the yard as perches, mostly for photographic purposes.
I then created a custom window mount to hold the Bigmos for extended periods of time, using the head off of an older Bausch & Lomb tripod. The kit sits on the window in the basement that overlooks the feeder.
