Tailless Warbler
Tired

Tailless Warbler (Setophaga coronata)

It took me a few moments to figure out why this little one looked odd. I saw another couple without tail feathers, that I'm fairly sure were separate birds and not the same one. Any thoughts?

Habitat
In a patch of scrubby forest.
Location
Berry Springs Park, Central TX.
Scientific name
Setophaga coronata

Nicely focused upon amid all those branches Tired!
Wonder if it had a run in with a cat.

Obviously had a run in with something. Well spotted and taken.

I don’t think it’s had a run in with anything!

This is a first winter bird. Males of some sub-species of YRW undergo a complete pre-nuptial moult (because their breeding plumage is completely different) so I would suggest it has moulted it’s retrices (which grow back very quickly!)

Poor little thing. Seems like its that correct season for it grown a new shortly. Great spot and capture Tired! TFS!

some psycho sniper's do that to birds here, but only outside the cities far away in the desert so they wont be caught.

That's so interesting about the complete moult and you finding him tailless Tired.
