Giant Sensitive Plant
Giant Sensitive Plant (Mimosa pigra: Fabaceae) a naturalized weed along our coast line. A shrub that reaches heights of 6 m (19.7 ft) with showy flower heads that are ca. 1 cm (0.4 in) in diameter. Native to Mexico south to northern Argentina. Listed in the top 100 worst invasive species of the world, but it is pretty.
Habitat
South Texas Plains vegetation area, floodplain of the Rio Grande, open area with lakes in Tamaulipan thornscrub riparian at 28 m (92 ft) elevation.
Location
Santa Ana National Wildlife Refuge, Pintail Lakes, south of Alamo, Hidalgo County, Texas, USA.
