female cassowary
What a weird, wonderful and huge bird. The southern cassowary is found in Australia and New Guinea. Not a lot of them left in Aussie and all in a small part of Northern Queensland. A rainforest bird, flightless, fruit eater, territorial and can be aggressive.
Not the greatest photo but it shows the feet. Look how huge they are! Not a bird to be approached lightly - they have attacked and injured people in the past. A little scary face to face but very excited to see this one.
