Female Downy on a Dreary Day
Actually, it's been a very dreary 10 days and more to come but the sun pops out for an hour or so and then goes away but Ms. Downy still stands out well.
Habitat
Found in open woodlands, particularly among deciduous trees, and brushy or weedy edges. They’re also at home in orchards, city parks, backyards and vacant lots.
Location
Backyard, Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, USA
Date taken
February, 2021
Scientific name
Picoides pubescens
Equipment used
Nikon D90, SIGMA 80-400/4.5-5.6 DG OS. plus a 1+1/4 extender. Hand held
I had a carpenter like that once who stared for hours at any piece of wood before drilling a hole in it. 😂 I honestly wondered what I was paying him for - did he think the hole would magically appear if he stared long enough (I didn’t use him again’ 😁)

Lovely image of a ‘thinking’ Downy!
