Lesser Redpoll - Midlands UK

These birds arrived together. A goldfinch, a Siskin and I think the other might be a lesser redpoll. So beautiful- I’ve never seen one before!

Are these kind of birds just arriving after migration? I’ve had a sunflower heart feeder in the garden for weeks now but not a single bird on it😞
We’ve had the Siskins since before Christmas & the Goldfinches. The Lesser Redpoll is a new visitor. We had an issue last year when no birds were eating the sunflower hearts. As soon as we tried a different brand they came back ! Always use B&Ms Glenwood Sunflower Hearts now. Brilliant.

Ahh I see. I got my sunflower hearts from a garden centre. I’ve clearly given the local finches too much credit and tried to treat them to fine dining when in reality all they want is a Wetherspoons pint and a curry for £7!
