Hi Simon! I dont think you are failing miserably at all. One of the attributes of a great photographer is to be able to set a scene, a mood or tell a story. I think that you have done it very well. Also the blue of the jays feather looks really beautiful against the orange/brown of the oak leaves

Having first seen the pic & its title, I thought of birds shedding their feathers for the winter.. Good art.

Thanks for the kind words people. I'm actually thinking of trying to produce a series of shots like this........"Evidence of Birdlife" or somesuch, but don't worry, i won't share them all with you........well maybe some
