All things White-tailed Eagle (3 Viewers)

An article about tracking new born lambs to see how many are being taken by the eagles.

There is a regional programme called "Landward" which is like a Scottish version of "Countryfile" and they have a piece about WTE and lambs on Skye which may be linked to the BBC news item you mention. "Landward" is transmitted tonight on BBC 2 Scotland at 7.00pm and repeated on Wednesday 27th May at 14.00pm.

It's also available on iPlayer sometime after transmission. :t:

No they didnt show up after you left - we have had monsoon here except today was bright and sunny and we had mum, dad and chick and a male hen harrier - and forget a pair of goldies - its wildlife so frustrating - great to meet you - sorry you didnt get a chance to meet our birds!

Ill be back to coin a phrase :)

I went on a White-tailed Eagle Photography trip in July to the Flatanger region of West Norway. A small group of Five photographers met or Guide Ole Martin-Dahl, We met at the jetty at lauvsnes at 6am The plan being to photograph the Eagles from a boat the birds would be attracted by a fish bait thrown by Ole.
Ole has been feeding the Eagles for many years with great success, he uses bread to attract gulls to the boat this in-turn alerts the Eagles to the fact its feeding time, After a short boat trip we arrived at a Bay with a large flock of Gulls in tow it was not long before our first Eagle arrived the fish was thrown the Eagle turned into the wind and dived at a tremendous speed, shutters clicked the bird had the Fish and was gone, This bird was quickly followed by it mate what a sight it came straight towards the boat picked up the fish and was off, The Eagles who had large chicks would come several times pick up a fish then return to the Nest and deposit there for the chicks to feed themselves.
That morning we had 11 dives from Eagles at different territories Ole knowing where to position the boat in each area of the coastline to attract the breeding pair for that area.
Our morning finished at 9.30am when the Sun had risen to high in the Sky to give the best of light. We resumed at 7pm until 11pm getting the birds at Sunset.
We made seven boat trips in a four day period with just over 70 dives from Eagles to a bait, giving lots of different photo opportunities . This all took place in the most stunning Scenery and weather. It was so pleasing to see such a large White-tailed Eagle population six pairs in a 10kil stretch of coast, Hopefully we will see the same densities on the West Coast of Scotland in the future.
A great trip but not cheap at £1500 but Norway is a very expensive Country to visit but well worth it to a Eagle lover like me.

Wow!!!
What a fantastic series of images Jim!
You clearly had some wonderful opportunities and clearly made the very best of them!!! ;)

Awesome images. Must have been an amazing photography trip.

I posted some stuff about my friends at Sakertour's WtE hide here with some more here. For more up-to-date information check Sakertour's website here.

Well worth the effort to get there. I ought to mention that they can be a little weather dependent whether or not they come to the fish bait.

Please feel free to PM if anyone wants more info.

BR Mike
