Cheshire And Wirral Birding: Hills, Lowland and Coast (4 Viewers)

Fame at last Dave, nice shots of the Mealy mate. Hope to bump into you in the spring sometime. Neil.

Todays news - adult Caspian Gull, Iceland Gull, 10 Yellow-legged Gulls and leucistic Herring Gull at Richmond Bank; 19 Scaup off Leasowe Lighthouse, plus Mediterranean Gull off Leasowe Gunsite; Green Sandpiper at Rixton; Little Egret at Poynton (also seen yesterday);

Getting reports of 2 Sabine's Gulls off north wirral this afternoon - but surely these have got to be kittiwakes??!! Sabs should all be in the south Atlantic.
Also reports of 40 Gannets and 40 Little Gulls off towards Burbo Bank windfarm, and 5 Mediterranean Gulls on the beach off Leasowe - none of which are confirmed - anybody else see these?

Possible near me at Backford as well. Been present last three days with flock 50+ Jackdaws on stubble. Tried to photograph it without success. Paler head and conspicuous pale collar. Easy to pick out from 150 m with 8 x binoculars.

I had a quick look out to sea - a lot of Kittiwakes out by the yellow buoy. I was hoping for Little Gulls.

Really strong south-west winds this morning - just checked the wind speed on Hilbre and it was 46 knots at 1115am, and was up to 55 knots an hour earlier! Gusts up to 70 knots. 55 knots is Storm force 10, only a knot below violent storm 11.
Interestingly the wind is due to go round to the north-west this afternoon, might bring in something interesting into the Mersey after high tide.

I bl**dy knew it. I leave you buggers alone for a minute and all the good stuff starts to pile in. Good luck over the next few days - and keep checking those gulls Jane ;)

Am just about to go down to Hoylake to do a bit of seawatching in the lee of the Lifeboat Station. Then on to New Brighton.

I've got a promising gull myself Richard

Its west of me now and I'm going to have to get out there after it. Not worse than a YLG

Getting mobbed by all the other large Gulls roosting on Middle Eye. Even the Oystercatchers had a go. No sign of any Little Gulls or Sabines. Kittiwake & Black-headed only.

Surprised to see a Barn Owl cross the M62 just east of M&S in a southerly direction tonight at 7.40pm - and relieved to see it just miss the articulated lorry... the flight was quite uneven but I guess a night hunting owl confronted with the bright lights of the M62 would be a bit spooked.

She has sent me the same photocopied reply to my three letters to her, including the one that told her not to bother sending the same photocoied reply!

Either she's arrogant ( and who would believe that of a member of this govenment? ) or just a brain-dead ex-morning TV bimbo. I know which I'm going with.
