A report just in of a possible juvenile Citrine wagtail at Golf II, Santa Ponça.
Seen by the very experienced and reliable Philip G. He doesn’t take photos which is a shame.
I know juvenile Citrine can be difficult but I have great faith in Philip. I hope someone else can go to see it and get a photo.
Mike

Having had the pleasure of being In Philp G's company several times on the Island,I have no doubt regarding what he has reported.

Reports from the group on the island of Cabrera are coming through with a Little bunting and a Yellow-browed Warbler so far. More to come, that’s for sure.
Mike

Regards,
Cristina.

Thank you for the update on Cabrera Cristina.
I believe there are now four Little buntings there, must be a record.
We had a long walk along the coast east of Palma. It’s a great place for terns and in winter, Red-breasted merganser, Razorbills and Mediterranean gulls. There was also a Common gull and a Purple Sandpiper in recent years.
No such luck today, just 14 Turnstone but it was a beautiful day and very enjoyable.
Mike

Many winter visitors now arriving including the first sighting of a Northern gannet, lots of Robins, Black Redstarts, White wagtails and large groups of Common Starling.
Mike

An Olive-backed pipit was sound recorded flying over Cabrera last night so there are some great birds around.
It was a poor day at the Cap today however, just one Honey Buzzard and a Booted Eagle I believe.
Some Tree sparrows were present and a couple of Flamingoes flew by.
Mike

Now that activity has waned at the Cap, we can look forward to some winter birding.
Son Real is one of the best sites and a day out there is highly recommended. It’s one of the few places that all my family enjoy too, it’s a lovely walk down to the beach.
The hide on the Blue Walk has a drinking pool where stunning views of Hawfinch coming to drink can be savoured. Great photo opportunities too.
Also a good chance of seeing the scarce Siskin and Goldcrest. Dartford warblers are around but elusive and Balearic warblers often show well.
Mike

Arrived back from Newcastle yesterday, only 11 passengers on the flight, at £12.99 each how can they do it. After the rain this morning ventured out early afternoon to Albufereta then to Maristany and final back to the scrape behind Pollentia Resort Club. A quiet day all round with very few birds about. The highlights for me were a wryneck behind the Resort Club and a very close flypast from a beautiful adult male marsh harrier at Albufereta platform. There were 2 great white egrets at Sa Barcassa hide but little else. Lots of swallows at Albufera and as many again at Maristany plus a single crag martins. Despite scanning the hirundines for the best part of an hour I couldn’t find a red rumped. The forecast says the wet weather is behind us, here’s hoping

Good to know you are back David and I believe Kevin has just arrived. Mike may be able to join us for a Brits day out too.
Here’s hoping.
A few more airplanes in the sky now but they must be running at a huge loss as you say David.
See you soon,
Mike

Hello!
I attach the birdlist of la Gola.
Lots of Robins and Chiffchaffs now, also increasing the numbers of Blackcaps and Song Thrushes. Already one Black Redstart and still one Tyrrhenian/Mediterranian/Balearic Flycatcher ;)
Testimonial pictures of a Booted Eagle, Stonechat, Kingfisher and butterfly Southern Brown Argus (Aricia cramera).
Cheers,
Cristina.

Lovely Cristina, thanks.
The two Phils are having a good day at Cúber, seeing 15 Ring ouzel. More details to follow.
Toni saw the second Black stork of the season at the Cap today, a species that still eludes me at this site. They are very scarce.
Mike

I spent a a very pleasant day with Geordie Dave at Albufera today. Not a great variety of birds were seen probably down to the high water levels. Waders included Greenshank, Common redshank, Green and Common sandpiper and a single Dublin. The highlights were seeing an Osprey fly in with its catch And the sighting of at least six Kingfishers. Later at the Depuradura we had a fly past Purple heron and a Black tern.
These are the days!

At least two Scops owls calling in Porto Petro tonight. They have been quite active recently.

A good start Kevin and David.
Hope to see you at Passage 5 on Sunday, and anyone else who fancies coming along. It’s the tail end of migration but a great time for rarities so you just never know.
Mike

Thanks Stew. That’s the first I’ve heard of it.
I will ask around and see what’s happening.
The last scheme failed and I saw my last White-headed duck at s’Albufera about 12 years ago.
There have been a couple of young vagrants in recent years and no doubt, like with many re-introduction schemes, there will be for and against. As I haven’t heard any opinions yet, I will post any information when I receive it.
Mike
