Got on to this a bit late! just a couple of shots before it winged over the roof. CC or Rook, felt it looked more like the latter on brief views?

Looks like a Rook to me Ken. Long rounded tail (Crow has a square ended tail) and the head well forward of the carpal joints in flight.

Tier 4?

(That was my thought on reading the title ;-) )

Pro Rook also the thin bill (forehead) and wing shape jizz perhaps.

Thanks guys, that confirms my gut feeling and I had the benefit of seeing it in action albeit so brief!

In answer to Andy’s question...they are only seen with any confidence (that low) perhaps several times per annum.

It’s odd how the sub conscious (when you’re blandly staring into space ) suddenly arrests your attention to that which doesn’t conform to the norm (CC).

As Deb mentioned the very rounded tail was quite markedly so! and yes the jizz looked more Rook than CC Dan, with the added bonus of gaining me a garden year list tick.👍

And I thought the bill to slender for Rook?
That’s not really something that can be safely judged I don’t think in such flight views - the tail shape a flight gizz is probably more reliable imo

Of course it could be a Variant form of Corvid 😂 (I hope no one complains I said that - just kidding Ken 👍)

Interestingly I thought that too, until I realised that it actually is and longer too, with CC having a shorter and deeper bill, and it was only ever going to be a two Corvid race. 👍

I've always thought that Rooks have a less tapered bill making them look slightly thicker and blunter?
Yes, probably a bit misleading. I was really referring to the forehead in comparison to the bill as an impression. And not great in this pic of course. Because it's blurred it's changed the appearance of the dimensions.

Burnt out, think that's the phrase?

The pale base/skin to the bill also contributes to thin-billed appearance at range (and in images) I think ...
