Fred Ruhe passed away 17 August 2024 (2 Viewers)

I am so sad. It was such an honour for me to learn from his knowledge and to be with him in e-mail contact. My condolences to you and your family.

Thank you, Melanie, you must have been special to him, also because of your name. He used to play a lot of Melanie-songs in the seventies... Thanks for your Beileid, it means a lot to us.

Deeply saddening news indeed. Fred's passion for the study of fossil birds and his willingness to share resources on the subject were exceptional, and his contributions will be sorely missed.

Dear Albert, thank you for your kind words about Fred's contribution to the Forum! For us (his sisters) it is a nice thought that he was appreciated so much. We did not know this part of his life. Unfortunetly. But we are very proud of him.

Very sad to hear this. I really valued Fred's contributions. Very pleased that someone was following and passing on developments in the fossil bird field.

Beste Lilian, gecondoleerd en sterkte! Ik stuur je een p.m. misschien is het manuscript onder te brengen bij Naturalis. Ik ben hier gastmedewerker dus ik kan gaan rondvragen.

From Google Translate: condolences and strength! I will send you a pm. Perhaps the manuscript can be placed at Naturalis. I am a guest worker here so I can ask around.

Hartelijk groet, Lilian

Dear Lilian. I was very saddened to learn of Fred Ruhe's recent passing and extend my condolences to you and your family. I only got to know Fred in the last couple of years, but we exchanged several emails and I found him to be very knowledgable and generous in sharing his wisdom and resources he had accumulated. His work in this Forum has been of huge benefit to myself and if I achieve anything in the field on avian evolution it will be in large part due to the extensive groundwork he laid - such do we stand on the shoulders of giants.
