I only got to know Fred in the last couple of years, but we exchanged several emails and I found him to be very knowledgable and generous in sharing his wisdom and resources he had accumulated. His work in this Forum has been of huge benefit to myself and if I achieve anything in the field on avian evolution it will be in large part due to the extensive groundwork he laid - such do we stand on the shoulders of giants.
