Calling All Uptoneering Togs Does anyone have photographs of Reed Warbler and/or Sedge Warbler taken at UW? And/or any panoramic/atmospheric shot of the reserve and its reed beds which they are prepared to let me use in an online presentation? I'm doing an extended (and hopefully illustrated)...

For me house sparrows have remained consistent, starlings slightly better than last year but similar experience on the rest. However, I have seen more goldcrest than usual. Anyone heard the Cetti's at UW recently?

Thanks John, and many thanks to Graham B (: who I met in the Holkham car park and who put me onto a bird I would never have know about otherwise. Ironic really that I'm really keen to see a Hoopoe and might well have swapped places with Lee if given the choice beforehand. But not afterwards...

Just a technical point in case it's worth consideration (offered without partiality or preference) - having two Flickr groups covering the same kind of thing is likely to reduce the search engine ranking of both thus promotion to a wider audience might be inadvertantly affected.

Could the recent behaviour be survival stress - many animals turn against their offspring when greater stress intervenes. The colony could be under stress in some way and therefore cannot tolerate as many young as have been produced. This could mean the food supply is limited this year or the...

I noticed Minsmere have reported many of their Avocets have deserted because of flooding. Not sure if they'd push this far West though?

Thoroughly enjoyed the day yesterday thanks to all those involved. Pleased with my own total even though I could only tick chaffinch from a song :eek!: I know that breaks the rules for cloth-eared novices but I did get independent verification (Phil) before I put it down. The quality of the...

Sorry Phil, posted as soon as I could. o:D Watched the SEO hunting over the field until it was too dark to pick it out any longer. Lots of bats about too.

Phil, Had a gropper reeling this evening whilst finally connecting with the SEO. It was in the same bit of grassland as the SEO so I didn't see it but unmistakable even to this novice. Paul

Yep, I missed the Common Tern and Curlew and Water Rail but got Little Grebe and Goldcrest, also Raven in Amy's Marsh. Can't trust myself yet with song ID so I had to sit in Hen Brook hide and wait for the Reed Warbler to show |=)| Looking forward to the real thing. Paul

Finally managed some quality time at the reserve despite the rain and hail and connected with the Terns, the Little Gull (thanks to a team effort in the East hide) and with ForgetfulElephant (good to meet you Rob). Then managed a couple of hours at the Flashes. While I was there late afternoon...

Thanks I think those of us who put in what time we can, as well as those who simply enjoy the results, owe a huge thanks to John and Phil (and Paul on the Moors) who put in more thought and time and effort and knowledge than any of the rest of us to ensure the work parties work and the reserve...

I'm sure you're right and I checked with the RSPB and the prey species is actually quite wide and will even include seeds and plant material. For all you other informaniacs out there here are the full details: Prey species for Avocets include crustaceans such as Palaemonetes, Gammarus, Daphnia...
