Thanks, after more research, #1 definitely seems to be Scissor-tailed Flycatcher chicks!

San Antonio Missions, Texas - July - Nesting birds?

Been going through some of my older backlog of bird photos in order to add them to ebird, and there's a couple from a trip to the San Antonio Missions that I just cannot identify. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks, Tom

Chilterns, UK - Marsh or Willow Tit?

I wasn't, I swear! o:) There were a LOT of dog walkers and family parties though. Luckily we got there before most. Thanks for the opinions, I think it's probably safe to mark it as a Marsh Tit. Tom

Chilterns, UK - Marsh or Willow Tit?

Back in the UK for Christmas this year and went for a walk with my Dad in my old stomping grounds of Wendover Woods. Not much going on, saw a few glimpses of Goldcrests, bunch of Long-tailed Tits and a nuthatch or two. Near the end we saw what looked to be a Coal Tit on a feeder. Upon closer...

    Short-eared Owl? Texas Hill Country

I didn't even think of a juvenile! That makes a lot more sense. Thanks for the fast responses! Tom

    Short-eared Owl? Texas Hill Country

Is this a rather unkempt Short-eared Owl and, if so, what on earth was it doing in the Texas Hill Country in mid-summer? It did not seem in the best of health, it was reluctant to fly off the path and, when it did, it clipped a rock and landed hard in some bushes. Thanks, Tom

    Mitchell Lake, San Antonio, Texas

I'm not entirely sure on this grebe, from my bird book it seems as though it has too long a neck to be Horned or Eared grebe, so I was thinking it was either a Western or Clark's Grebe? No clue on this one. My best guess here is a female American Redstart? Thanks for the help! Tom

    Mitchell Lake, San Antonio, Texas

Hello! I visited Mitchell Lake for the first time yesterday and saw a great haul of wildlife, including some fantastic photos of White Pelicans and an amazing view of a bobcat. I was able to identify most of the birds pretty easily, some were similar or the same to what I am used to from the UK...

Large swift over San Antonio, TX

As I took a break from work today, I noticed two large swift-like birds flying overhead. They were flying relatively low and slow, at maybe second storey height, and they had the long, thin wings of swifts with a short, forked tail. Unfortunately they were silhouetted against the low cloud and...

Small bird in garden - San Antonio, Texas

Thank you! That does appear to be it, it looks quite a lot darker and more green in my Texas bird book, but in my birds of the US it does look the same as the photo!

Small bird in garden - San Antonio, Texas

Hi, I have seen this bird on the feeders in my garden a few times over the last few days but I am struggling to identify it. I think it might be a vireo of some sort, but I am new to the area as well as the country and my bird books do not seem to be helping me narrow it down too much! Thanks!
