    Don't recall the comments in question but I hate blanket statements like this that there is no evidence for/proof of. How do the programme makers know why any individual feeds birds?!

    BBC Twitching Documentary

    Just watched on iPlayer. Not my type of birding at all but I found it an entertaining programme. Extreme twitchers seem a bit mad but fair play to them, they could be doing worse. How on earth do so many of them end up married though? Women must be madder than I thought, I'll bear that in mind!

    For Ulster I would go for Black Guillemot. They're common along the east coast and perhaps more tame than anywhere else in the British Isles. Also as Ulster is/was known as "the black north" a mostly black bird is suitable! Co. Armagh: bullfinch, they're common here and like the orchards...

    Sparrowhawk or Peregrine....

    Drake mallard, let alone greylag, seems large prey for a buzzard! Were these birds taken in flight? Also what ducks have you seen sparrowhawks take? Presumably only teal? Think in terms of diet the geographic and individual preferences of different raptor species must vary widely.
