Identification

Male and female similar.
Immatures give a more rufous impression of the underside.
Photos of this species gives a very variable impression.

Some authorities has this as a monotypic species^[1], others also recognize subspecies greenwalti^[2].

Habitat

Subtropical cloudforest, second growth and clearings. Forest edges and gardens. Observed between 700 and 1700 m.

Behaviour

Forages from understory to tree tops. Visits garden feeders.
