Identification
Male and female similar.
Immatures give a more rufous impression of the underside.
Photos of this species gives a very variable impression.
Distribution
Central America and northern half of South America
Central America: Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama, Trinidad
South America: Colombia, Venezuela, Guyana, Suriname, French Guiana, Ecuador, Peru, Bolivia, Brazil
Taxonomy
Some authorities has this as a monotypic species[1], others also recognize subspecies greenwalti[2].
Habitat
Subtropical cloudforest, second growth and clearings. Forest edges and gardens. Observed between 700 and 1700 m.
Behaviour
Forages from understory to tree tops. Visits garden feeders.
