Genus: Oreoica
Description
This genus contains just one species, the Crested Bellbird from Australia.
Taxonomy
Oreoica is a genus in the Family Oreoicidae.
Formerly placed in the family Pachycephalidae. Has also been placed in the family Falcunculidae but apart from having a crest there is not much evidence for such treatment. Also regarded to be close to Colluricincla as it resembles Grey Shrike-thrush in size and shape. However, recent molecular-genetic studies suggest a closer relationship with Rufous-naped Bellbird and Piping Bellbird and it is now moved into a separate family with these two species (Oreoicidae).
