Genus: Panurus
Description
This genus contains only one species, the Bearded Parrotbill.
This species is sexually dimorphic and has a relatively long and pointed bill.
Taxonomy
Panurus is a monotypic genus in the Family Panuridae.
Recent studies have shown that Panurus appears to have a closer relationship to non-babbler species. So it's now placed in the monotypic family Panuridae, related to the larks (Ericson and Johansson 2003; Alström et al. 2006; Fuchs et al. 2006). It was formerly placed within the parrotbills in Paradoxornithidae.
