Distribution

Central America: found in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama

Subspecies

There are 4 subspecies^[1]:

• V. p. ramosi:

• Southeastern Mexico (Veracruz, Oaxaca, and northern Chiapas)

• V. p. pulchellus:

• Gulf-Caribbean lowlands of south-east Mexico, Belize, Guatemala and Honduras; also local on Pacific slope of south-west Mexico (Chiapas), Guatemala, and El Salvador

• V. p. verticalis:

• Caribbean slope of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and western Panama

• V. p. viridiceps:

• Pacific slope of Costa Rica and western Panama, and both Caribbean and Pacific slopes of central Panama

Diet

Their diet consists of insects, fruit and berries.
