Central America: found in Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Panama
Taxonomy
Subspecies
There are 4 subspecies[1]:
- V. p. ramosi:
- Southeastern Mexico (Veracruz, Oaxaca, and northern Chiapas)
- V. p. pulchellus:
- V. p. verticalis:
- Caribbean slope of Nicaragua, Costa Rica, and western Panama
- V. p. viridiceps:
- Pacific slope of Costa Rica and western Panama, and both Caribbean and Pacific slopes of central Panama

Their diet consists of insects, fruit and berries.
