Genus: Jynx
Description
A distinctive genus of woodpeckers with two species.
Wrynecks do not have a stiff tail like other woodpeckers, so they don't have the same ability to climb up trunks. Their bills are shorter and they don't excavate their own nest holes. They are able to twist and gyrate their necks to 180 degrees or more, hence their English name.
