Distribution
Asia: found in Russia, Mongolia, China, Japan, Hong Kong (rare/accid)
Southeast Asia: Indochina, Malaysia, Brunei, Philippines, Borneo
Taxonomy
This is a polytypic species[1] consisting of 2 subspecies.
Subspecies
- H. o. subcerthiola:
- Kamchatka Peninsula and northern Kuril Islands; winters to Philippines
- H. o. ochotensis:
Habitat
Damp grassland, thickets, shrubberies and forest glades. Tall grass around marshes, lakes and coves, islands and exposed headlands.
Behaviour
Diet
They forage in the undergrowth for insects.
Breeding
Their cup nest is constructed from leaves and grass stems. It is placed on or near the ground in thick grass. The clutch contains 5-6 eggs.
