Plain-breasted Ground Dove - BirdForum Opus

Identification

Differs from Common Ground-Dove in lacking scaling on breast and throat, and male has a pink wash on breast.

Distribution

Argentina, Belize, Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica, Ecuador, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Guyana, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru, Suriname, Trinidad, and Venezuela. In Brazil avoids the central Amazon basin.

Taxonomy

Four subspecies are recognized, minuta, amazilia, elaeodes, and interrupta.

Habitat

Dry savanna, subtropical or tropical dry shrubland, subtropical or tropical high-altitude shrubland, subtropical or tropical seasonally wet or flooded lowland grassland, and heavily degraded former forest.

Behaviour

Feeds on the ground, uses powerlines etc for resting.
