• Rufous plumage (brighter underparts)
• Darker brown wings
• Grey bill with pink or horn base

Distribution

Central and South America
Central America: Mexico, Guatemala, Belize, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama
South America: Colombia and Ecuador

Taxonomy

Subspecies

There are 2 subspecies^[1]:

• R. h. holerythra:

• Gulf lowlands of south-eastern Mexico (Veracruz) to northern Colombia

• R. h. rosenbergi:

• Western Colombia (southern Chocó and Nariño) to north-western Ecuador

Habitat

Lowland rainforest and humid primary forest up to 1200 m.

Behaviour

Diet

The diet includes large insects and caterpillars and many seeds and fruit.
