Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Nepal, Thailand, and Vietnam.

There are 5 subspecies^[1]:

• A. m. magna:

• Himalayas (Garhwal to northern Burma and south-western China and Malay Peninsula)

• A. m. aurata: East and central Burma
• A. m. musarum:

• South-eastern Burma (southern Shan States) to northern Thailand and northern Laos

• A. m. pagodarum:

• Southern Burma and south-western Thailand

• A. m. remota:

• Southern Vietnam

Habitat

Moist lowland forests and montanes.
