I've ruled out House Sparrow and Chipping Sparrow on this one.

I caught this one, along with another of the same species , hopping amongst thick scrub and trees near a lake.
Lots of tail bobbing and hoping from one spot to another.
The markings arent too clear on the pic but there were plenty of dark stripes on these.

Although the quality of the photo isn't the best, my overall impression of the bird is a Song Sparrow.
