I just picked up this scope on Saturday as I wanted a small but not too expensive travel scope. This is the new version from Viking that replaces the original model. It is a non ED optic but the image is very clear and sharp considering the price, with very little chromatic abberation.
The new model is completely different to the old model, with better build, smoother focuser, built in sunshade and increased zoom from 15-45 magnification. It’s slightly larger and heavier than the old model at 950g but feels well made and sturdy.
I took it out on Sunday for about 3 hours and was very surprised and satisfied with the quality of the views. Even at 45x the image is sharp although not as crisp as at 15x.
At £159 with a decent stay on case and a 5 year warranty I think it’s a bargain.
If you are looking for an inexpensive travel scope with decent quality it’s well worth a look.
