    Today at the feeder

Hurray!! First Yellow bellied sap sucker landed on the red pine beside the deck - then over to the maple...where he (she?) just sits and sucks for seemingly hours on end. I love spring.

    Today at the feeder

Hummingbird map Found this site the other day: http://www.hummingbirds.net/map.html and the migration map is fun to visit and "watch" the northward migration...though I think they're still several weeks away from Eastern Ontario.

Wet, wild and windy here (Ottawa Valley) today...but the songsparrows have arrived and are singing their little hearts out. Also RB and WB nuthatches, chickadees, blue jays, hairy and downy wpkrs, and the first two robins of the year.

Closing down the feeder for the summer.

Here in eastern Ontario I feed year round - have watched nuthatches, cardinals, hairy and downy woodpeckers and blue jays all bring their young to the feeders - in warm months we also put out a bird bath with a drip tube and the birds all love it - great entertainment for the people watching too!

I could use helpful advice, please :)

We put out black oil sunflower, niger, peanut butter suet, and peanuts (in a metal cage feeder with holes) - the yard's pretty messy come spring, but easily rakes up to clean the area. We also put out a dripping water tube that "plinks" into a bird bath -really attracts the birds too. The...

    Beautiful Sign of Spring

What a thrill! Looked out the window this morning, and there right off the deck was a male ruffed grouse proudly displaying for the female, sitting rather aloof in the sumac tree...he circled the tree several times, showing off his ruff and his tail to great advantage..until she flew off to...

Merlins We had two in our yard last year - they love the white pines - and all the other small birds at the feeder...who quickly disappeared from the yard for the summer! SRE

Good Morning from the Ottawa Valley Canada

Started looking for a help site for birds of Cuba - we were there last week - and saw what I believe to be an emerald hummingbird - with long forked tail...any verification would be appreciated - there doesn't appear to be many bird sites devoted to the birds of Cuba... Here at home I'm watching...
