    Very dull day, brightened up by the sight of 50+Waxwings from my front window, flock moved up Coniston Drive feeding in the trees bordering the slip road off the A19 at Lindisfarne rondabout ( n/bound ). Mick.

    Garden First! As this hastily taken picture ,through the window and rain, shows, Ring Necked Parakeets have arrived in Jarrow! A pair stopped briefly at the feeders at around 7.30am today.

    Sparrowhawk? Thanks Ian,the only reason I asked for ID was that the bird was so small even for a male Sparrowhawk, when I first saw it I thought it was a thrush!! until it turned it's head and I saw the "raptor" profile.

    Thank you for your advice and comments, Ulli,Keren and Tim, much appreciated. I don't think I'll bother the Nightjars with a "flash" after all, it may do them harm and I wouldn't want that. Your technical advice will be taken on board and used for subjects less attuned to the dark, many thanks...

    Beanies Lots of little groups of geese in the "usual field off Moor Lane" yesterday mostly distant and mostly Greylag, but a few pinkies present and could only pick up two Beanies. A case of now you see them, now you don't. Grass pretty long, but a Peregrine circling above got the heads up...
