Does this guy look familiar to anyone?

Thanks! He is a very beautiful bird. I was wondering if he was a fox sparrow. I was looking in my National Geographic Field Guide to the Birds of North America but the picture in the book just didn't look quite right but that was closest I had found. Thanks again!

    Baby Bluebirds missing!

I just found out that the heat index was around 114 degrees yesterday. we're also in the worst drought in 40 years here. could these conditions have had anything to do with the babies dying and the parents removing their bodies? i don't know if birds to that or just move on to a new location...

Could it have happened again??!! I had 5 baby bluebirds just about ready to fledge but today they've disappeared. Mom and dad bluebird will fly over to the nesting box and flutter around it. I've seen them do that when wasps were building a nest inside the nesting box, so I figured I'd check...

    Bluebird question...

thanks ncbirds... i jjust bought a bag of lime at the farm center at lunch. if this doesn't work i'll try the sulfur. i guess i should sprinkle the lime in the same size area around the box too (6 ft.)? but how thick should i spread it? this is hydrogenated lime, not regular garden lime.

    Brown-headed Cowbird: The "Black Vagabond"

interesting article. thanks for posting it. but i have to admit that i'm not a fan of brown-headed cowbirds. i have 40-50 or more in my area. i've put a lot of time, effort and money into attracting song birds to my house and i don't want the cowbirds decimating the songbird population. i...

    Bluebird question...

yes, but i'm assuming that's in the same nesting box as the first brood. i had heard somewhere that house finches will have more than one nest going at a time (one with hatchlings getting ready to fledge and the other with new eggs). since these bluebirds were checking out the new nesting box...
