    Reduviidae? species?

Hi, Photographed im May of this year, in southern Spain, arid area but with a lot of fruit plantations around. About 5mm in size. I'm guessing it belongs to the Reduviidae. Is it possible to get to species with this only photo of it?

    Predator hunting at lake

I don't think we will get any further on this discussion. We will have to settle for this. Net search shows that it's wrong calling this individuals patterns and coloring as normal since normal would show at least a few hits on a net search for this species. It's also proven not normal since...

    Predator hunting at lake

The shape change when moving head is minimal and nothing to consider in ID purposes. Patterns on animals are by nature different for every individual, no matter if it's a human (freckles etc.), Tiger, Bird, Toad, Wasp, etc. The white head of this individual may not appear white but that may be...

    Predator hunting at lake

And since this individual is so "normal" (average bird I would equate it to) according to everyone, then why isn't that explained in the guides? The bird guides don't need to fit every variation into their book since this individual is a normal/common one according to everyone here and by...

    Predator hunting at lake

Normal it might be but definitely very uncommon. But if it's normal it should be defined in the best bird ID literature and it's not. So I'm really not convinced about the "normal" statement of yours. I would need literature or photo evidence since I can't find similar individuals when searching...

    Predator hunting at lake

OK, let me put it into a question format to get some answers on this. 1 - Why can't I find any similar photos of a Marsh harrier, with that distinct strong and sharp edged zig-zag? Very very unusual version/morph of mine? 2 - Min has a very white head, not cream, not grey, but just about as...

    Predator hunting at lake

Thanks Everyone agreeing. Surprised it's a female Western Marsh Harrier. I have a few Marsh harriers passing by here every day and none of them even come close to looking like this one does. None of the others have the white head and especially not the zig-zag marking. This one also seems much...

    Predator hunting at lake

Hi, I can't find what species of bird of prey that this one belongs to. The flash marking behind the eye reminds me of an Osprey but not quite the same. It is large, about 1.4 meter wing span. Another thing that strikes me when I watch this bird (saw it last year too in same area) is that it...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

Thanks nirofo, I've been looking at some of your photos and you have a beautiful birds gallery and I certainly can't seen much noise in any of them. I downloaded the file you provide. Thank you very much for that. I'm not welcome on Nikonians web site since about 5 years back because I had in...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

Could be. I've read of users with this lens testing the sweet spot and they did not find any diff between f/4 and f/5.6. BUT, using a TC did give better results stopping down one or two stops. We'll see what he says :)

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

Thanks nirofo, I've received similar response (motion blur + high contrast) from other Nikon 500mm users and that calms me down. With a lot of practice and testing around settings I will get this babe to show it's potential. I don't know how you can get good results with your D200 above ISO...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

That's an interesting take on it. Maybe you're right and it's not actually fringing but as you explained. First time I hear of that as a reason for these kinds of colorings but with your experience I will take that into consideration and research more on that. Will have some interesting time...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

Thanks everyone. With all the answers I've received on this, among others from owners of this or similar lens, I now understand that it's unavoidable so that calms me down. That was all I needed to know. JPAC: No, this is not motion blur. It's a fringing in combination with an oof shot...

    Nikon 500mm and purple fringing

Hi all, I have an AF-S NIKKOR 500mm f/4G ED VR. I got it just a few weeks ago. I got this lens primarily for BiF photography since I wasn't with the performance of my Bigmos (Sigma 150-500mm). I love my Bigmos for everything else though. I've come to realize that this Nikon lens is quite...

    Eagles breeding period ?

No need to repeat the "get the permit" statement. I know of it and that's it. The posters are not actually just concerned with the Eagles, they are in need to impose their superiority in knowledge because they think that someone with less posts has less knowledge. This may not apply to all of...

They are not gone because of humans around here. They are gone because of the pesticides.

    Eagles breeding period ?

I'm intending to be around 200 meters away with my 1000mm lens. Photos are for raising awareness of the decline of precious fauna and to stop the spread of pesticides in those areas. About responsibility statement: Neither one applies. The couple are used to humans as I stated in my last post...

    Eagles breeding period ?

I am not being over-defensive or anything else you may want to label me with to explain my post. You need to understand that all of us do not have the common social abilities that most others have. My way is to go straight to the point and tell what I think is correct. If people get hurt by my...

    Eagles breeding period ?

Sad you have to state it so categorically that way. You obviously do not know what you are talking about. I understand your desire to think you know everything regarding to birds but you have a lot to learn yet. You assume things and you should NEVER assume thing but instead ask for more...

    Eagles breeding period ?

I appreciate the concern for them, IMO that is rare, even among animal photographers, but don't worry about that in my case. You could have asked about my credentials first though and the specific circumstances. I know what I'm doing and you won't find ANYONE at all that takes more into account...

    Eagles breeding period ?

Hi, I'm curious to know when you think Eagles, south of Alicante in Spain, would breed and for how long? The area is in a mountain range close to Crevillente and I know they nest there every year but I don't know exactly when and for how long. I don't know which species it is either but it...

Nests and eggs ID help needed

Thank you so much Ken ! I'm always impressed with the level of knowledge on this site/forum. You're assessment leads me to believe that the smaller nests most probably are of Parus caeruleus/Cyanistes caeruleus or Parus major and the eggs I think could then be Parus caeruleus/Cyanistes caeruleus.

Nests and eggs ID help needed

Hi Ken, I can't be 100% sure it was deserted but for the weeks having been there, our summer place, no observations were done of a bird entering the bird house. On top of that, these bird houses have been nested for the last 30 years by different species but always in May, no later than early...

Nests and eggs ID help needed

Hi, I've tried getting help with this from the best resources in Sweden but either no one can or no one cares to help. I would like to find out which birds the nests on my photos belong to and I also have a couple of bird eggs from one species that I would like to know which it is. Photos of...
