    Female sparrowhawk seen cruising around at Porters Mill and Egg Lane this morning. 3rd time she turned up, she was perched with what looked like blackbird prey in her talons and was calling to at least 2 young who screeched back at her from the conifers

    Cuckoo just now, over the canal just south of Salwarpe. Stopped in a treetop, made her bubbling call, then headed off towards Coney Meadow

    Swallow over at the bottom of Egg Lane just now Pair of mandarins & 4 coots still on the flooded field Loads of chiffchaffs and at least 3 cettis between here and Porters Mill

    Mink at Mildenham lock today, it scuttled off to the flooded field after staring at me for a while. Ive only seen two in the last 10 years and both of those between Egg Lane & Linacre Bridge

    A couple of brambling in with the chaffinches in the tops of the towpath hedges opposite Coney Meadow. Four yellowhammer still in the same shrubs and amazing linnets flocks here too

    Loads of linnets in the set aside field behind Salwarpe this afternoon, biggest flock was 65 perched on the overhead wires. Young stonechat in the field too. Also; hen sparrowhawk circled over, mobbed by two crows, single raven and passage skylarks

    Red kite over Coney Meadow just past midday and still over Salwarpe an hour later. Raven over too and buzzards constantly calling. Family of 5 bullfinch behind the church, lots of young goldfinch about and a lone whinchat sat amongst a thistle patch next to the fence line

    Dozens of swallows & martins skimming the big field between Ladywood & Salwarpe this morning. Quite a few swifts about and a handful of linnets flew over calling

    Fantastic walk this morning from Ladywood to Mildenham & back. Loads of birds about. Cuckoo at Ladywood was very vocal & mobile. Little owl was in its usual spot. Managed to take phone+bins shot of both. 55 species in total

    Another fantastic murmuration tonight. Thousands of birds, with flock after flock joining as it flew and after it had swept into the reeds. 2 sparrowhawks snuck though after it had landed with one of them flying past with a starling in its talons. 2 hares also spotted, chasing on the hill beyond...

    Amazing to watch the starlings roost this afternoon, some wonderful shapes to their murmuration and all were in the reeds by 4pm Also, a couple of brambling in the alder at Salwarpe Court

    Red kite circling low over Mildenham this afternoon Scores of dead fish above the lock here too, mostly perch (including a whopper) but also a good number of pike and a few roach. Lots of different sizes and getting quite smelly, which was drawing in the lesser black-backed and black-headed...

    Barn owl this morning over the canal at the bottom of Jacobs Ladder. Smashing views of a cuckoo calling a little further along. I've not seen as many this year
