    Assuming no last minute surprises, of the c 61 changes, 34 affect me with 14 losses and 20 gain so six more on the life list. I'm particularly pleased with the chaffinch, Lesser Sandplover and Cockatoo splits and with the Western Flycatcher lump. The others I'm ok with either way

    No, lets hope it doesn't make landfall at all :) Of the approximately 50 splits/lumps in IOC13.2 I've lost 11 and gained 15 - so a net gain of 4.

    I see the IOC website states for v11.1 10,806 extant species and 158 extinct species and for v11.2 10,914 extant species and 158 extinct species https://www.worldbirdnames.org/updates/ But as the extinct St Kitts Bullfinch has been split shouldn't this be 159 extinct species?

    I would have gone last year had it not been for you know what! It was an optional extension on Birdquest's SE China tour. Ian PS the Grallaria rulula complex was posted in the IOC diary on Sept 3 - Post proposed split of Rufous Antpitta complex into multiple species.

    And don't forget the difference in plumage and vocalisation between Two-barred and White-winged Crossbills. Will Eastern and Western Willets ever be revisited or will they remain lumped for the foreseeable future? Ian
