Not from the perspective of the IOC WBL. We had already moved striatus (and samarensis) from D. hottentotus to D. balicassius (See Subspecies Updates 10.2):



So, for the most recent versions of the IOC WBL the split of Short-tailed Drongo is from Balicassiao not Hair-crested Drongo.

I have just received my Indonesia book and I have to say, having a separate species of Drongo (looking entirely the same) on every small island is a bit funny.

Given the divergence time, it is best to recognize two genera: Rhopospina and Corydospiza (because Corydospiza has priority over Porphyrospiza)

The paraphyly shown in the mtDNA study of Eberhard & Bermingham (2004) is not reproduced in Smith et al. (2020) which show oratrix and tresmariae to be sister taxa.

Somebody knows the Smith's study?

I will keep tresmariae as a species, although sister taxa of oratrix, the branches are still quite large compared to close species
