What did you see in your binoculars today?

With my 10x42SF mounted on a heavy tripod, the Pleiadies star cluster (in the Taurus constellation) looked amazing. It first grabbed my bare eyes, as something interesting and different in the heavens. That prompted me to get the 10x42SF on a heavy tripod for a better look. PHOTO: Tony...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

What a nice array of raptors you have! Yes, Jupiter, Saturn, and Venus are all looking great right now, aren't they! I enjoy seeing them every night, when I'm out with the dogs.

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I've been working to attract gold finches with my Nyger Seed feeder. Over recent weeks I've seen two, then three, then four. And today, I received a pair of these... And soon thereafter, I observed and counted EIGHT gold finches at one of my feeders! Thank you, Leica! ;) :)

What did you see in your binoculars today?

The only crow-family birds I've seen here are cowbirds (we call them "skells"; they are brood-parasites. They lay their eggs in other birds' nests, sometimes kill the other eggs, and cause the nesting birds to raise their cowbird chicks.) Quite aggressive, though I've never seen them harass any...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

We see a few buzzards (Turkey Vultures, we call them) here in Arizona. But tend to see more Harris Hawks. We haven't seen either the Turkey Vultures, nor the Harris Hawks in conflict with any other birds. Of course, when the Hawks swoop down onto our acreage, all the finches, wrens...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

Most interesting sight with binoculars TODAY was a beautiful bobcat, carrying a rabbit dinner in his mouth as he crossed my property for the wooded area - to eat! I do see bobcats, often, on my property, but not with dinner hanging from their jaws. Here's a mom with her cubs stopping by one...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

The male house finch with the growth on the side of his head, who has been a daily visitor for a while, hasn't shown up in days. I'm afraid that his head tumor has taken him down. Also, the small Cardinal (juvenile, I think) who had the black beak hasn't been around for a few days. Hmmm. We...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

I put a suet feeder out yesterday, joining with our thistle seed and mixed seed feeders, and today we had numerous visits, for the first time, from Black Headed Grosbeaks. What gorgeous birds! Bright intense yellow and black. This was a first sighting of them for us on our property. Of...

What did you see in your binoculars today?

What fun it would be to visit Lagavulin, Ardbeg, and Laphroaig. Three of my favorite scotches!

What did you see in your binoculars today?

We have a great many regular, daily visitors to our feeders and water. Two individuals really stand out these days. One is a male house finch, reddish, with a large growth on the side of his head. I feel badly for him - can't imagine he will be around for long. The other is a juvenile...
