Always love your little owls, Woody -- coming along beautifully!

And another winner!! Well done, Mike, and well deserved (no surprise they chose it -- brilliant, dynamic piece, hats off to you!)

The face-on wheatear is particularly endearing, and I have to draw attention to that last scribbly little hobby sketch -- love this!

Great snipe sheet, Mike -- spot on work (love that scibbly little suggestion of a foot in the middle right bird!) Nick, sounds like you make it worth the ticket price! I take it a well-stocked bar fridge is part of your rider?

Really excellent gull sketches, Mike, and amazing how a few little marks can suggest so much!

Absolutely delightful, Woody, preening plover is a beaut, and I LOVE the little character on the second last sheet with the grumpy 'don't mess with me' look.

In, in! Of course, if it was bothering you, by all means leave it out (nothing worse than have some little detail stare at you thereafter when the work is finished, whatever anyone else's opinion is of it).

I adore those wags, quicky, jizzy, just responding to what's seen! And at the other end of the spectrum is the dove, so contemplative and carefully done. Brilliant.

LOVE the wren, Mike, along with all the little details that pull you in and let you explore awhile (like the hole gnawed through the one upper leaf, or the rootlets fastening the vines to the tree). Winter wrens are just too cute with their little stubby tails, impossible to take them seriously!

Superb sketches, Woody. The snipe is a very contemplative scene, the sort that needs to be put in paints!

Wonderful, Woody! That oak looks like it'll be lots of fun (great composition, too). Now that's the diminutive 'pecker I wanted to do in my last painting!

Brilliant, Mike! They look lost at sea, you've done a superb job of seeing them dwarfed by their surroundings. And you'll have to tell me how you get them to bob so naturally on the surface on the water. You can really feel that wind whipping the waves as well. Superb.

Ooh, so warm and lush and sun-dappled ... I'm feeling pangs of warbler withdrawal just looking at those woods. The windchill is dragging things down to -30C tonight, so thanks for the warm-up, Woody!

Ooh, thick dark lines and chunky shapes, lovely!

Skylarks are a fantastic set of sketches (they look cold, hunkered down like that, I'll never understand how little birds can handle such weather). I hope you push on with this soon, the driving snow would go well with your looser style.

Superb, Woody! The seated 'grin is a beautifully observed study of light and shadow, and my fave is the launching avocet -- so much in so few lines!

Woody, paint in whatever style you enjoy the most (and when you're this good at it, cripes, you ought to!). She's coming along beautifully, can't wait to see her finished!

The character is just spot on here. (I love that one glinting eye!) The lighting, too, is superb, and the freshness of the whole scene. Excellent stuff, Woody!
