Early this morning I drove over to the Ohio River Valley to look for a pelican that showed up a couple of days ago. I quickly found my target, plus another new bird for the year.
290. American White Pelican
291. Northern Shoveler
The pelican was a West Virginia lifer, number 277.
I had to go over to my daughters in Birmingham today and on the way called into Stirchley where a long staying Black Redstart was being regularly reported.
This evening I went out to see if woodcocks were calling and displaying yet. I saw two in flight and got some of my best looks ever as I had a third one at close range in my spotlight.
