A very uninspiring morning with no movement of any kind; the birding felt more like late June than mid May :eek!::-C Plenty of time to do some decent wildfowl counts!
SAILING POOL
7 Greylag Geese (no sign of any goslings), 6 Canada Geese, 4 Mute Swan*, 4 Great Crested Grebe, 12 Tufted Duck, 8 Coot plus one brood, Cetti's Warbler.
FLASHES
Dunlin, Common Sandpiper, 2 Oystercatcher, 2 Lapwing (!!), 26 Avocet plus one brood with 3 young, 4 Little Ringed Plover, 5 Shelduck, male Gadwall, 15 Tufted Duck, 5 Mute Swan, 9 Canada Geese, 12 Coot, 5 Moorhen, Kestrel, 2 Swift over north field, male Redstart briefly on the old barn, 3 Linnet. No Med Gulls!

MOORS POOL
Snipe, 3 Lapwing, 2 Avocet, 4 Oystercatcher plus 2 young, 4 Shelduck, 4 Gadwall (no sign of any ducklings, male Shoveler, 60 Tufted Duck, 2 Mute Swan, 28 Canada Geese, 11 Coot, 5 Moorhen, Water Rail, 1 Herring Gull, 3 LBB Gull, 3 Little Grebe, Grey Heron, Mistle Thrush, Willow Warbler singing along east track. No terns!
* A Mute Swan had become trapped in the bramble field by the Sailing Centre, unable to take a run-up to fly over the fence. Thanks to the swan rescue people for extracting it, to John for calling them and to Lee for raising the alert and guiding the rescuers to the right location
