Once Bittern, Twice Shy
Hello Folks

I found this gull at the deep end of Blithfield Reservoir, Staffordshire, on New Years Day.

After studying the Malling Olsen/Larsson "gull bible", the shawl of the bird could point it to a 2nd winter Caspian Gull, the shape of the head too. But I was wondering if anyone has seen Yellow-legged Gulls (or indeed Herring Gull) that look like this? Not sure about the bill colour for one thing.

Unfortunately it was a long way in front of the main flock of roosting large gulls, so I was unable to compare it on size with Herring and Lesser Black-Backed. I do have other pictures of the bird, but they're even worse than this one.

Thoughts and comments would be much appreciated. :t:

Cheers
Richard

If it helps, then here are a couple of other pictures. It may help with the bill, that's about it.
