Have 81 species according to Ebird of my county Winnipeg this month.Have been birding quite intensively this month to see what total I can get in Winnipeg this month.Still hope to get a Ruby-throated Hummingbird and Chimney Swift, but few options after that to add to my list.Maybe some shorebirds heading south.

Today I observed an Osprey flying over Horseshoe Lake. It was carrying a fish and was being harassed by two blackbirds. Apparently it was getting too close to the blackbirds nesting site.

# 74 for July in Buchanan County, Missouri

A few shorebirds are returning, but not finding much in the way of mudflats on which to feed because of all the flooding we are experiencing here in the midwestern US. I was able to add one new "July bird" to my county list.

75. Semipalmated Sandpiper, July 21, Lake Contrary area, Saint Joseph, Missouri

Four more species for my Buchanan County July 2011 Bird List:

76. Red-headed Woodpecker
77. Common Moorhen
78. Stilt Sandpiper
79. Buff-breasted Sandpiper (a real beauty!)

Haven't been out much, just out from time to time walking on my little patch and walking to and from work but these are the ones I can remember having seen this month here in Essex, UK (all around Chelmsford):

Kestrel
Sparrowhawk
House Sparrow
Dunnock
Wren
Bullfinch
Chaffinch
Greenfinch
Goldfinch
Linnet
Yellowhammer
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Robin
Grey Wagtail
Pied Wagtail

Red-legged Partridge
Green Woodpecker
Carrion Crow
Magpie
Swallow
House Martin
Sand Martin

Chiffchaff
Whitethroat
Skylark
Black-headed Gull
Herring Gull
Lesser Black-back Gull
Common Tern
Mallard
Coot
Moorhen
Canada Goose
Mute Swan
Great Crested Grebe

Not too bad considering how little I've been out and not far from the town, mostly without my binoculars. Has been quite quiet really but then July often is and especially so with all the wet weather we've had here. The height of the crops on my patch has kept some of the birds hidden I think but on the meadow it's very quiet compared to a few months back. Surprised I've not seen Long-tailed Tits, but I do go through periods like that with those birds.

Thanks Larry. In some ways being limited in places to go is an advantage as I get to know the places I do go to quite well, though would be nice to just get in a car and head out to other places on a whim. Still possible I could add to that tally if I manage to get out next weekend, would be good to get to the coast and see some seabirds as I've not been to the coast since I went away on holiday in May.

I heartily agree with that, always seeing something new and interesting going to the same places.I am also limited to were I can go but sure would like to visit some areas in my own province Manitoba.

I added three more Buchanan County 2011 July Birds this early evening around the Lake Contrary area, Saint Joseph, Missouri:

80. Semipalmated Plover
81. Least Tern

Would you believe it, I saw a party of Long-tailed Tits this morning on my walk to work! :-O

It's good to have a mix I think, to find a local place to visit regularly but also go out elsewhere from time to time to shake things up and keep it fresh. Living without a car pays dividends sometimes as I often find interesting stuff walking to places where people in cars just zip past on the way to the honeypots. Depends on what you want from the hobby though I suppose, some people probably only have time to zip in, see something and then zip off home again.

I may have to remove Sanderling from my above list as it may turn out that the bird I saw was something else! The verdict is still to be determined.

* Sanderling, deleted from above list.

Yesterday I saw a Ruffed Grouse along the Eramosa River in Wellington
County. The heat is creating mudflats around some small ponds and I
hope for different shorebirds.
