Did the Pied Piper tell you how quickly he he would be in sorting out the rat problem. As this greedy little --- plus his family were busy feeding in front of the conc hide today. (No pic yet, file too big!)

Also seen from the conc hide this gorgeous Wigeon.

P.S. Could anybody I.D. this ¬spoonbilled/shoveler mixed up duck thing?
(Perhaps Lee Evans has some ideas;);)

Red Shoveler, a South American species.

Saw one at Grimley many years ago, but thinking about it, it may have been a hybrid ;)

Moors Today

Moors:
I have already mentioned the NM. After walking the trail, I spent a bit of time in the two west hides.
The concrete hide played host to a pair of grazing wigeon. A species that only usually appears on autumn passage and sporadically through out the winter. This year small numbers have been ever present throughout October. We have tried to encourage this species to winter, with specific habitat management. Namely the SW Marsh, where we have cut back the reed mace in the last 3 autumns. It is hoped that in time a sweet grass sword - 'wigeon lawn' will be result. Ironically the small 'lawn' in front of the concrete hide, seems to be doing the job.

Species count MOORS:
GCG 2, little grebe 5 min, greylag 20+, shoveler 60 min, pintail, teal no count, wigeon 3, pochard only 1 male,
snipe 4, lapwing 155, common gull adult, Herring gull 80, LBBG 45, water rail 5 min, cettis in total 5 singing, goldcrest, starling 300+ hawking insects,

Snipe too were appearing, that was due to the cattle flushing them from their roosting site.
