But a small increase in avocet and a dunlin added to the general impression that things were about to 'start' ( well it is August next week).

Hi John - just to give you a bit of an incentive as to what could occur, even on a blistering hot summer's day in the Midlands .....

Yes, Moorhen is the first thing that springs to mind (as long as its not one of those juvenile Water Rails!)

No sightings of LSW so far this year; well worth a mooch especially with the huge variety of insects along the Salwarpe path

To add to Phil's sighting, I was joined by Keith M till late on and I finally left at 9.50pm
Shelduck 6 juvs + 1 adult, teal 12, mallard were dropping up to dark c140+,
GREEN SAND 16 ( a couple of birds dropped into an unseen area just south of the temporary fence), curlew 23, BHG c1000, a little egret appeared briefly at about 9pm in the 'keyhole scrape' , it looked different to the moors bird, in having almost totally yellow/green legs. The oystercatcher was being fed by both parents every two minutes, so it really has a good chance, even though it is so late in the season.

just a bit of info, I was sat outside the Vernon arms at Hanbury tonight at 20.15 and 2 curlew flew over coming from Feckenham direction looked to be heading Upton's way, I was only drinking coke honest, tim

Meds.

Pic1 and pic 2 - juvenile med gull on the Flashes early pm.
Pic 2 has a comparison with a juvenile black headed gull.
Pic 3 and 4 juvenile med gull on Moors later pm.

Flashes pics have had confirmed. Moors pics matches a similar one from my 'Helm' book. One of my biggest problems is sorting meds from bhg juvs at a distance in sometimes awkward light. I have a very clear close up of each type from a different site which made the ident easy. Plus I had those confirmed. Wouldn't any fun if it were easy I suppose.o:D

Not an expert on dragonflies, but these two seem to be:-

1. Common Darter (Hen Brook hide)
2. Black-tailed Skimmer (on return to CP from E. hide)

3. How much will the hide take? - there was a point at which it moved appreciably:eek!:

The middle LRP cage was overturned and well to the right of its original position on churned up grassy area - did this happen after the LRP had abandoned its nest, or did they abandon it because of the onslaught?
