National Bird for Scotland (1 Viewer)

What should the Scottish National Bird be?

Personally I would vote for House Sparrow. It has a declining population, yet they are found everywhere else in the world (usually transported there by the you know who).

Just like the Scots.

Maybe more seriously I would go for Eider Duck. A very familiar sight all year round on all Scottish coasts. A useful bird too.
Sorry, Northumberland's got that already ;)

Isn't it Crested Tit, anyway? That's what's on the front of Scottish Birds

Capercaillie - it's not the only one we don't get elsewhere in the UK, but it's the most impressive.

True but all the cappers in Scotland are ex-Scandinavian birds so I am not sure that is entirely appropriate. ;) My vote (and I am part Scottish) would go to red grouse, not as an endemic but because it was adopted by a whisky company and it epitomises Scotland.

Golden Eagle.

Nothing sums up the wilder side of Scotland better. It's also a bird that every Scot can see whether they are a birder or not. It's not as if you can stumble upon a Caper by accident and Crested Tits take some birding skills to pick up.

But Golden Eagles have just the right size and behaviour to ensure that anyone seeking them out will see one.
