Can I feed birds from my attic flat?

Hi,
I live in an attic flat and would live to be able to feed the birds but of course have no garden to do so. I have seen the window feeders which look great but because I live in an attic flat, all my windows are skylights. Any window feeders I've seen would not work on my windows because the seed would just spill out.
I've considered creating my own thing, maybe using a regular, hanging feeder and tie it to the handle on my window, I'm not sure how effective this would be and if it would just make a big mess when I open the window.
Please can you share your ideas with me? Or if you k ow of any feeders suitable for skylight/velux windows.
Thanks in advance😁

Hi Gamsee and welcome to BirdForum. Interesting question. I’ve not seen any feeders specifically for a Velux windows but there must be something out there. I guess you’d be in danger of attracting a lot of Gulls if you’re in the marina area which is not an issue, but they do cause a lot of mess.

Hi Gemsee and a warm welcome from me too.

It's years since I've seen a Velux window and can't remember the details of them now and I know there are different types. Does it have a wooden frame around it?

I've attached my feeders to those little brass hooks that you can screw in to wood. Or maybe you could try something like this that attaches to the window glass: https://www.reallywildbirdfood.co.uk...w-hooks/whooks

If you use a sucker system like this you do need to try and work a secondary safety system, so that if the suckers fail the whole lot doesn't go crashing to the ground. I either tie the feeder to the hooks, or feed some string through the window and fasten it inside.

I'm sure you will enjoy it here and I hope to hear about all the birds you see when out and about.
