A Few Monochromes (1 Viewer)

Tim,
These are superb, mate! You will now know that I'm going to be a pain in the a**e and ask what you used to make these masterful renderings? The techie stuff's a yawn, I know but I have to ask. I've ben asked to contribute illustrations to the upcoming breeding atlas for the Barnsley area. If my b and w's came anywhere near these I'd be happy as the proverbial pig in the muck!

Cheers

Russ

..quite amazing.

Waxies and Puffins as mentioned are great- Love the Cranes and Herrier too, wonderful little drawing. R B Shrike is another decptively simple drawing, these reflect a large helping of skill and drawing ability...

Thanks folks - glad they appear to be getting your collective approval.
Russ - I'm drawing direct with a felt-tip marker pen - called a 'Sharpie'. It's fairly crude but it means there's no room for fussiness; something I tend towards when using ink. A few of the top drawings are done with a double-ended Sharpie - it has a finer point and a marker point. You may notice the different quality of line.

Cheers, Tim.
Would I ask my local stationer (no art suppliers now in my town - phillistines!) for this by name or do they have a brand name? Asking for a 'sharpie' where I live might see me being escorted off the premises by a burley security guard!

No idea, mate - it just says 'Sharpie' on the barrel. It's an off the shelf item from my local newsagents.

I've never had one for longer than about 24 hours before someone nicking it, but they're sure nice while they last

I recently had to put in my hours at the coop grocery we belong to. During my training for the work they gave me a Sharpie for the job but emphasized over and over where I should return it when I was done. Like they have the habit of disappearing very easily. Over here they are very easy to find though and pretty inexpensive, at least for the one-ended type.

Here's the very chap - costs aout £1.80, I think. Thanks Ed - that's the one!

Well there ya go, Mike - I had no idea they were so high-profile.

. . . and whilst I'm here - these were drawn using the same pen (well, not the same pen - that one got nicked . . . Beckham? or my kids? I forget) - from last year sometime.
