Bird Banding in South Carolina (1 Viewer)

South Carolina's most active bird banding station is Hilton Pond Center for Piedmont Natural History near York. Equidistant from the mountains and the coast, the site is by no means a migratory pathway, but we've still managed to band nearly 45,000 birds of 123 species since 1982--including nearly 3,000 Ruby-throated Hummingbirds.

Banding results are published regularly to the Center's Web site at http://www.hiltonpond.org, particularly under a series of photo essays entitled "This Week at Hilton Pond. The current installment at http://www.hiltonpond.org/ThisWeek040515.html focuses on Green Frogs but includes a list of birds captured or recaptured during the period.

If you'd like a free on-line subscription to these weekly essays and banding reports, just send a blank e-mail to [email protected] with SUBSCRIBE in the subject line. I hope you'll enjoy exploring the entire Web site and many photos of birds that we've banded in South Carolina.

Happy Banding (or Ringing)!

BILL
