Which bird is this. New to our area (1 Viewer)

Began sighting 9/18. Never seen before. Green Valley near Napa, CA. Approx 17-20" (.4-.6m) Eats berries from our Pistache tree. Orange flash underwings when it departs. Its call kinda like a squawk.

Welcome to BirdForum, pmb. It is a Northern Flicker indeed. The species is common and widespread in California. It feeds on ants as well as on berries.
