Saturday 12th of Feb - IO33

Only a very small strip of this square is actually on the mainland (Howth Head), the vast majority lying in the Irish Sea. As such it proved quite tricky to find Passerines - in two hours of searching only Blackbird, Wren, Dunnock and Magpie were found. At sea, good numbers of Gannets, Auks, Kittiwakes, Shags and Fulmars were moving past Howth Head. Small numbers of the last three species were already back on their breeding sites on the sheer cliffs. Patient scanning of the seaweed covered rocks below the cliffs revealed single Oystercatcher and Turnstone.

New Species for IO33: Gannet, Dunnock, Shag, Fulmar, GBB Gull, Common Gull, Blackbird, Oystercatcher, Turnstone.
Missed: Peregrine, Kestrel, Skylark, Goldcrest, Blue Tit, Great Tit, Reed Bunting

February 12th of February - IO24

Scanning from the end of Howth Pier, Guillemot, Razorbill, Black Guillemot, Fulmar and Gannet were quickly added to the square list. On Ireland's Eye, a few Brent were feeding on the grassy slopes of the islands, while a Grey Heron and Shelduck were on the small beach.

New Species for IO34: Auks, Fulmar, Gannet, Grey Heron, Shelduck
Missed: Rock Pipit
