Twenty five tonnes of pigeon droppings have been removed from the 675-year-old ancient English monument of Landgate Arch in Rye, East Sussex.
The droppings were almost three feet deep and had built up inside the towers of the arch. Cleaning contractors described the smell as "awful - even through a facemask".
